As society advances and new problems reveal themselves, the need for new solutions increases. Civil engineering focuses on the progression and problem solving of society from general base fields to more specialized subclasses tackling every element of everyday human enviroments. New understanding of important topics like physics and mathematics help engineers to adapt to new problems, the biggest of which is a growing population. Buildings are made bigger and stronger, roads stretch farther, pipelines are implemented, damns, bridges, tunnels, and public facilities are built and improved upon. Though these are just a few examples, all are an example of ways civil engineers assist in society. The field has been around for thousands of years (guess who oversaw the construction of the pyramids) and still exists today. Over the years the field has divided into many subfields all having to do with civilian life.

Everywhere you look, weather you live in a big city or a more rural area, you can see aspects of society which civil engineering deals with. The roads we drive on. The buildings we live in. The dams that supply us with hydroelectric power. Bridges and tunnels that cut through natural obstacles and assist in our quick transportation. Pipelines that carry substances below our feet. Engineers oversee all of these civil projects. Civil engineers take on projects that have anything to do with the benefit of civilian life.
